Kindertheater München (Children's Theater)
There are plays for children over 4 years old including Grimm's Fairy Tales and Mozart's Magic Flute as well as more modern plays such as "Oh, wie schön ist Panama" by Janosch, "Die kleine Hexe" and "Peterchens Mondfahrt". In the cafe there is a small stage with costumes which the children can use to practise their acting skills.
Bayerische Staatsoper
Munich's opera history started in 1651 and since then has received its premiere, with Mozart, Wagner and Strauss operas.. These are the "three house gods" and make up for a great proportion of today's programme. Since the Bayerische Staastsoper company does not have a theatre of its own, performances take place in different places, mainly in the Nationaltheater and the Altes Residenztheater. Both theatres were rebuilt after World War II. A major attracton is the annual opera festival in July.

Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz
The "Gärtnerplatz Theatre" was founded in 1865 as a people's theatre, to provide an alternative to the court theatre. The repertoire included mostly operettas and lyrical drama in German. Nowadays it also includes ballets, operas and modern musical works. Recently concerts of chamber music have become a regular part of the programme. The theater has more than 200.000 visitors and over 300 performances each year and is very much a part of Munich's social life.
